Dear Child,
Life may be short and uncertain,
The path strewn with rocks and a lot of pain
For all the tears and winter’s rain,
Be brave! Your sufferings don’t disdain.
In my reassuring company,
Life was easy and full of glee
The mighty ocean and the restless sea,
Were no match for you and me!
All good things must come to an end,
My life like yours God did lend
Creatures like us in every bend,
Cry at goodbyes and hearts are rent.
Hang on, have faith and don’t be sad,
A lifetime of learning will be your rod
In all your tasks – don’t fear, be glad,
I will be there, my cherished lad!
